Dr. Stephen Connor is the leader of the team whose medical career has separated him from his family. Connor was previously a Captain in the US Army, and fought in the (first) Gulf War.

Connor doesn't suffer fools easily and sometimes forgets that courtesy and tact go a long way in getting answers. Frank and Doctor Natalie Durant often run interference for him. When Connor was young, his older sister died from a mysterious bacteria. He now devotes his life to making sure other families don't suffer the same fate, often at the expense of his own family.
